all the 5’s in FIVES
FIVES was heavily inspired by the first, second, third time I watched Christopher Nolan’s Memento (and read the short story it was based on). I liked how much memory effects our perception and how truth can be relative. I wanted to give the story a specific time frame in which the story takes place and I wanted it to be concise resulting in a five minute-short film with a countdown featured from five to one.
I was also inspired by American Horror Story season one where an injured man shows up at a house asking for help and murders the occupants. Although very creepy and scary, that is where the horror aspect of FIVES came from.
This project was filmed for a media course at Santa Rosa Junior College under Brian Antonson and was my second admission into a film festival. This short is currently under rewrites as I plan on reshooting this short with new actors and a new script!
Some other fun details:
there is a countdown throughout the short from 5 to 0 in the film from embroidered towels to dates on a medical bracelet
the name “Quincy” for the character’s antagonist comes from the number five
the name “Grayson” in some languages means innocence as he is the protagonist who chooses to help Quincy
when I wrote this I had anticipated that this was at least the fifth house Quincy had encountered at person at
