from script to screen for Script to Screen
Script to Screen was the first short film I ever had screened at a Film Festival. It was the first one I ever entered and received awards for, so it holds a very special place in my heart. Looking back, I see the cliche in making a movie about making a movie, but when I only had a couple days before the festival deadline, I could only write about what I knew: the struggles of making a short film.
It started with genres I enjoyed: comedies, action/martial arts, and sci-fi and then a couple of other classics like drama and rom com came into play. I really just wanted to make something fun with different costumes and set pieces and I think the movies plays that well.
Because I was pressed for time, the only actors I was able to recruit was my family. With my Dad stepping into his most iconic role of Morpheus in the Matrix spoof. (Fun Fact: the Matrix joke came from me noticing that Tylenol has both a red and blue side and recalling the scene in the movie.)
This movie owes a huge thanks to my sister, Elyse, for being the one who pushed me into creating a short film for the festival as we decided to make it when my parents were away at dinner for fun. It ended up turning into one of my most treasured projects.
